The Celadon Inheritance Journey

Drawshine
Sep.7,2024

On the afternoon of September 10th, under the organization of the DRAWSHINE brand's product design team, Ruier (Zhejiang) Brand Management Co., Ltd., teachers and students from the Product Design Studio of Ningbo University S&T College successfully embarked on a journey to explore the culture of Shanglin Lake celadon. They visited the Shanglin Lake Celadon Cultural Inheritance Garden, the Shanglin Lake Yue Kiln National Archaeological Park, and the Shanglin Porcelain Garden.

At the Shanglin Lake Celadon Cultural Inheritance Garden and the Shanglin Lake Yue Kiln National Archaeological Park, the teachers and students watched a documentary on the historical development of Yue Kiln celadon from Shanglin Lake, admired various Yue Kiln porcelain and celadon artworks, and learned about the thousands of years of development and manufacturing techniques of celadon.

At the Shanglin Porcelain Garden, the teachers and students toured the exquisite celadon exhibition hall and workshop. Masters with over 20 years of experience in porcelain-making demonstrated their remarkable skills, which impressed and inspired the students.

Master Sun, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Yue Kiln celadon in Ningbo City, shared insights with the students on the evolution of celadon and the development of *MISE YUE KILN*.

Master Sun remarked, "Innovation has always accompanied the thousands of years of porcelain history. It is a natural progression as craftsmanship matures. Changes in lifestyle and societal practices are reflected in the artifacts. Just like the popular Chinese style today—being Chinese naturally imbues your work with the aesthetic interests of our people. It's in our genes, so there is no need to force it." He encouraged students to be brave in innovation, emphasizing that new techniques are born from the combination of traditional methods and modern knowledge, inspiring them to promote celadon art through creativity.

Mr. Yu Guorong, founder of the DRAWSHINE celadon art makeup brand, added, "Celadon has evolved and improved throughout history. However, since the advent of *MISE YUE KILN*, the production of Chinese celadon has taken a more refined approach, including a simplified artistic style. To truly appreciate the charm of porcelain-making, we must regard *MISE YUE KILN* as the standard. While the aesthetic definition of celadon is broad, this shade of emerald green represents the essence of celadon’s soul."

Ancient landscapes and thousand-year-old *MISE KILN* traditions. This celadon inheritance journey allowed students not only to understand the historical value and deep cultural significance of Chinese celadon but also to appreciate the aesthetic charm of *MISE YUE KILN* more profoundly. As the event came to a close, Mr. Yu Guorong expressed his hope: "While preserving the oriental charm and temperament, I encourage students to bring more creative inspiration and vibrant color to this international symbol of celadon, ensuring that this ancient art, with its thousands of years of history, continues to shine brightly on the stage of the new era."
